Johnny Starter

By Tom Farmer

It’s been a very good day for Johnny Manziel. The Cleveland Browns season long backup quarterback received the news from coach Mike Pettine during a film session this morning in Berea that he will be the starting QB for the remainder of the season. Coach Pettine explained in his press conference earlier today that Johnny earned the start from his impressive play against the Pittsburg Steelers last Sunday at Heinz Field. Although he did not get the win, Johnny passed for 372 yards with 73.3 completion percentage and 95.8 QBR. He also ran 3 times for 17 yards total. Not only did he get the starting gig, but the NFL put out a statement that they will not discipline Manziel for his driving antics and the possible domestic incident with his girlfriend back in October. It feels as though that the black cloud over the Browns and Johnny that has been there for the past season and a half has cleared for the time being. This doesn’t make up for the sawn picture, the money phone the rolled up dollar bill in the bathroom in a club, but this opportunity can be a turning point for his career and even his personal life. As a starter in the NFL, you have certain expectations and, especially in Cleveland, we take those standards very seriously. He now has an entire franchise and an entire city on his back and most willing to support him but there will always be doubters. This is his chance to show us that he could be the future of the Browns or he could just be another headstone in the quarterback graveyard known as Cleveland, Ohio.
